1 Dead, 3 Injured in Shooting Outside Saint Paul Funeral Home

One man was killed and at least three others injured in a shooting outside a funeral home late Monday morning in Saint Paul’s West Side neighborhood.

Police were called to the scene around 11:20 a.m. and located multiple victims who were shot. Police reported that at least one victim was critically injured and called for multiple ambulances to treat the wounded.

Saint Paul police confirmed there were multiple shooters involved.

A male victim, 28, was shot in the throat and later died of his injuries.

A male in his 20s was grazed in the cheek, a male in his 30s was shot in the neck, and another victim who is now in critical condition is a male in his 20s who was shot in the stomach, back and leg.

Police closed the surrounding area, collected evidence and were working to review surveillance footage that may have caught the shootout. 

Scanner traffic revealed that there may have been as many as six suspected shooters, all wearing yellow clothing who were involved in the incident, though no official suspect information has been released.

The shooting occurred outside the funeral home where friends and family were gathering for the funeral of Casanova G. Carter, 26, who was shot and killed inside a residence on the 700 block of Winslow Ave. on February 1st.

After the shooting, Regions Hospital was on a precautionary lockdown as family members continued to arrive.

Police report that the man who was shot in the abdomen, back and femur is listed in critical condition and the other two victims are being treated for their injuries at the hospital.

Investigators do not believe the shooting was random.

The man’s killing is the 8th homicide of 2022 so far in Saint Paul.

UPDATE: Authorities identified the man who was killed in the shooting as Agustin Martinez, 28, of Crystal, Minn. - As of Tuesday afternoon, no arrests have been made. Police ask that anyone with information call 651-266-5650.
