APPLE VALLEY—Police have confirmed a woman is dead and two men are injured after a shooting on the 900 block of Oriole Drive on Sunday night.

Police were called there shortly before 6:30 p.m. after 911 callers reported “multiple people with weapons shooting at each other,” according to a brief social media post shared by Apple Valley police.

When officers arrived, two victims were found outside: one who was deceased and another victim with multiple gunshot wounds.

Police say a 49-year-old female suffered gunshot wounds, was deceased at the scene and a handgun was located in her hand.

The female’s adult son, a 25-year-old male, also suffered gunshot wounds and was later treated and released from the hospital.

According to Apple Valley police, the 25-year-old admitted to participating in the shooting and is currently in custody.

Witnesses said a vehicle fled the scene prior to officers' arrival.

Police say it’s believed that the vehicle was driven to Ridges Hospital in Burnsville. The driver of that vehicle, a 39-year-old male, entered the hospital with gunshot wounds and is in serious condition as of Monday.

The injured 39-year-old male is the deceased female’s ex-boyfriend, police said, and his vehicle is being processed for evidence. He has not yet been identified.

Investigative assistance was requested from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and a crew was on scene Sunday night.

Police ask the public to avoid the area until the scene is cleared. The neighborhood was still blocked off as of late Sunday, with investigators combing the area for evidence and a yellow tarp covering an apparent body near a vehicle.

If you have any information related to the shooting, call your local police department or 911.

There is no indication that others were involved in the incident, police said. The Apple Valley Police Department is continuing to investigate with the assistance of the Minnesota BCA.
