1 Killed, 1 Injured in Dinkytown Minneapolis Shooting
A juvenile was fatally shot and a man injured Monday night in a shooting in Minneapolis’ Dinkytown neighborhood, with at least three firearms recovered.
Officers were dispatched to the area of 13th Ave. SE. & 4th St. SE. around 11:10 p.m. after a 911 caller reported hearing nearly a dozen gunshots.
MPD and University of Minnesota police responded and found the two victims with gunshot wounds, along with two guns that one of the victims was in possession of at the time, according to initial dispatch audio. Officers believed one of the victims also fired shots in the incident.

Officers started CPR on one of the victims and police later confirmed that the juvenile male died at the scene, with the other victim transported to the hospital with a reported gunshot wound to the foot. MPD spokesman John Elder said the injured man is expected to survive and police are not seeking any suspects.
Elder said the victims of the shooting are not believed to be University of Minnesota students or staff.
Officers said shell casings were found in front of Burrito Loco, but it was unclear where the gunfire initially rang out in the busy Dinkytown area. A witness reported seeing a male possibly tossing a gun near the Kollege Klub and police later found a third firearm near the entrance.
Police were requesting Crime Lab respond to the scene and were putting up tape around the area as they continued to investigate late Monday and into the morning. The U of M Department of Public Safety sent an alert to students early Tuesday morning, asking for those in the area to use caution, but it did not include any more suspect information.
It was the third separate shooting incident Monday in Minneapolis, and would make for a total of five shot and injured. If confirmed as a homicide, the Dinkytown shooting would be the city’s 17th of the year.
While Elder said police were not seeking suspects, more information was not available Tuesday on what led up to the gunfire. The victims of the shooting have not been identified yet.
