2 Shot Dead in Minneapolis as Police Investigate Possible Link

Minneapolis police are investigating two shootings within a 15-minute span Monday night that left two men dead.

The incidents both happened on the south side and while investigators have not confirmed a connection between the shootings, MPD Chief Brian O’Hara said the possibility is being examined.

No arrests have been made as of publication.

“Our officers and investigators are doing everything they can to determine the circumstances that led up to these fatal shootings,” O’Hara said. “I am grateful for the officers, firefighters, and EMS personnel who work tirelessly, even when the weather poses a danger to them.”

The first shooting was reported around 9 p.m. on Jan. 20 in the 3400 block of 3rd Avenue South. Officers from the 3rd Precinct arrived to find a man in his 20s with at least one life-threatening gunshot wound. Officers rendered aid before the man was transported to Hennepin Healthcare, where he later died.

Investigators found gunfire had also damaged a nearby home, which was occupied at the time. Officers canvassed the area for evidence and witnesses while securing the scene. No other injuries were reported.

Minutes later, around 9:10 p.m., officers from the 5th Precinct were called to an alley in the 3100 block of Harriet Avenue after reports that someone had dumped a body from a vehicle. Officers there found a man in his 30s with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Hennepin Healthcare, where he was pronounced dead.
