Biwabik Man Charged with Attempted Murder Following Shooting Incident

A 22-year-old man from Biwabik faces multiple felony charges, including attempted second-degree murder, after allegedly shooting at a woman on August 26, 2024.

According to a criminal complaint filed in St. Louis County District Court, Landon Terrance Tuomala was charged with attempted second-degree murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, and intentional discharge of a firearm that endangers safety.

Authorities responded to a 911 call around 6:55 p.m. from Tuomala, who reported that he had shot someone and was no longer armed. Officers from the East Range Police Department arrived at the scene on E. 3rd Avenue S. in Aurora, finding no one in the yard but noticing a pickup truck with its lights on nearby. As officers approached, Tuomala exited the residence with his hands in the air, stating no one else was inside and that the female victim had run away.

Further investigation revealed that the victim was Tuomala's father’s girlfriend. She told officers that upon arriving home, she found the garage door locked and the deadbolt turned, which she thought was odd. Since the garage door was closed, she throught Tuomala had left the house and walked into the residence. In the living room she found Tuomala pointing a rifle at her. She then fled the residence, and Tuomala allegedly fired a shot as she fell to the ground. Although she was not struck by the bullet, a bullet hole was later found in the siding of a neighboring house.

Tuomala admitted to police that he aimed a rifle at the victim and fired, believing he had hit her. A search of the residence led officers to recover the firearm that was used with a spent shell casing in the chamber.

Tuomala is being held in St. Louis County Jail with bail set at $750,000. He faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted on the attempted murder charge.
