Body of Missing Cannon Falls Man Recovered in Cannon River

Authorities say a body believed to be that of a missing 60-year-old Cannon Falls man was recovered from the Cannon River Thursday afternoon.

The discovery was made during a coordinated search effort, with positive identification pending from the Medical Examiner.

The man had been reported missing on Monday, Dec. 2, at approximately 8:11 p.m., after he failed to return from a walk with his dog. His dog was found, but he was not. The Cannon Falls Police Department handled the initial missing person call and began searches of the area.

On Thursday, Dec. 7, at about 2:20 p.m., the Cannon Falls Fire Department located the body in roughly 5 feet of water on the south side of the river, downstream from the man’s residence on Larkspur Lane. Search efforts had included foot patrols, drones, and airboats in and around the Cannon River.

Multiple agencies assisted in the search, including the Cannon Falls Police and Fire Departments, Cannon Falls Ambulance, the Goodhue and Dakota County Sheriff’s Offices, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, the Minnesota State Patrol, and the Dakota County Special Operations Team, along with Randolph and Miesville Fire Departments.

The investigation is ongoing and a confirmation on the man’s name is expected in the near future.
