Brooklyn Park Man Gets 16 Years for Washington Co. Sex Trafficking

A Brooklyn Park man charged with promoting prostitution has been sentenced in Washington County District County to more than 16 years in prison.

James Edward Williams, 42, was sentenced Friday to 201 months in state prison on charges of engaging in sex trafficking and violation of a no-contact order, the Washington County Attorney’s Office said.

Williams entered a straight plea on the morning that the jury trial was set to begin after having previously rejected other offers by prosecutors.

Williams was initially charged in October 2020 with promoting prostitution and engaging in sex trafficking, though the charges were amended to include several counts of no-contact order violations and tampering with a witness.

Williams allegedly made more than 30 phone calls to the victim from the Washington County Jail, documents said.

Williams remains in custody at the Washington County Jail, awaiting transfer to the Minnesota Department of Corrections.
