When Washington County detectives met with Nelson’s boyfriend on March 1, he told them that earlier in the morning, his girlfriend had assaulted him in front of their two-year-old child inside their bedroom.

According to the criminal complaint, Nelson located the dating app Tinder on her boyfriend’s phone and got into a verbal argument with him. Nelson then allegedly smashed an already broken window and grabbed a shard of glass, which she began swinging at her boyfriend.

The boyfriend told investigators that he held up his arm to defend himself until he was able to grab Nelson’s hands and made her drop the piece of glass. Detectives saw multiple lacerations on his forearm from the glass shard, the documents said.

The criminal complaint said the altercation took place while Nelson’s child was awake in the room, but the child was not injured.

Detectives then spoke with Nelson at her workplace, where she admitted to stabbing her boyfriend with the piece of glass after she discovered he was cheating on her. Nelson also admitted that she cut her hand during the incident and had a bandage on her right hand.

Detectives then informed Nelson that she was under arrest. She began yelling and hyperventilating as officers attempted to place her in handcuffs, the documents said. Nelson resisted and the detectives moved her to the ground, where she continued to struggle and yell.

While on the ground, Nelson’s hands were moving near the detective’s waist, where his firearm was concealed and holstered, the documents said. Nelson was given multiple commands to “not grab there,” but Nelson ultimately moved her hand under the detective’s shirt, grabbed the handle of the firearm and attempted to draw the firearm out of its holster. Detectives then had to use force and physically remove her hand from the grip of the weapon.

According to court records, Nelson made an initial court appearance on March 3, where bail was set at $50,000 with no conditions or $10,000 with conditions, including no alcohol or drug use, remain law abiding and have no contact with the residence or her boyfriend.
