Driver Arrested After Fatal Fridley Crash

One driver was killed in a crash in Fridley late Monday morning, authorities confirm, and another driver was arrested at the hospital.

Emergency crews were dispatched at 10:56 a.m. to the 6600 block of East River Road after reports of a crash involving an SUV and a sedan traveling southbound.

According to initial findings, the SUV struck the sedan before both vehicles left the roadway. Rescue crews soon arrived but the driver of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff’s office said.

The driver of the SUV was taken to a hospital for treatment of his injuries before being arrested and transported to the Anoka County Jail. Formal charges are pending as of publication.

The Fridley Police Department, Spring Lake Park Police Department, Fridley Fire Department, Allina EMS and Minnesota State Patrol responded to the scene. The Minnesota State Patrol is assisting with crash reconstruction as part of the ongoing investigation. The roadway remained closed for several hours as authorities processed the scene.

Authorities have not yet released additional details about the drivers involved or the circumstances leading up to the crash.
