Eight People Injured in South Minneapolis Shooting

Minneapolis police have confirmed that a total of eight people were injured in a shooting just before 6 p.m. Sunday near E. Franklin Ave. & Chicago Ave., with apparent automatic gunfire sprayed by two different shooters.

MPD says three males with apparent non-life-threatening gunshot wounds were found in front of the Minneapolis Market on Franklin Ave. Officers provided medical aid including the application of tourniquets and a fourth male was found with a non-life-threatening graze wound.

All four of the injured males were transported to Hennepin Healthcare in multiple ambulances from the scene.

A juvenile male later arrived at Children’s Hospital on Chicago Ave. with at least one apparent non-life-threatening gunshot wound, MPD said. Two more males and an adult female arrived at Hennepin Healthcare and all had apparent non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

In total, there were eight people found with gunshot wounds:

  • One 15-year-old male

  • Three 16-year-old males

  • One 17-year-old male

  • One 18-year-old male

  • One 45-year-old female

  • One 48-year-old male

At least 41 shell casings were recovered from three different calibers and one house was found with damage from the gunfire, police said.

There were reports of individuals running from the scene who may have been suspects but they have not yet been officially identified and as of early Monday afternoon, there have been no arrests. According to police dispatch audio reviewed by MN CRIME, surveillance cameras captured two different shooters who were on foot and witnesses reported seeing two or three different vehicles speeding away.

Disturbing dash camera video captured the moment when the gunfire rang out. It shows a crowd of bystanders on the sidewalk outside of the store fleeing for cover as the gunshots come from shooters off-screen.
