Elderly St. Paul Robbery Victim's 73-year-old Daughter Nabs Purse Bandit After Stakeout

After a 92-year-old woman had her purse ripped from her arms at the laundromat Thursday morning, March 25, the victim’s 73-year-old daughter returned to the scene of the crime and set up a stakeout, waiting for hours in hopes of catching the thief, St. Paul police said.

UPDATE: Purse Thief Nabbed by Elderly Victims' St. Paul Stakeout Has Long Criminal History Across Minn.

Officers were called around 10:45 a.m. to the laundromat on the 700 block of Milton St. N. after the 92-year-old woman reported a female suspect snuck up behind her, ripped her purse from her arms and ran from the building. The victim’s 73-year-old gave chase of the purse snatcher, but couldn’t catch up.

Officers worked with the victim to cancel her cards and began investigating the robbery.

About nine hours later and across the street from the same laundromat where the crime occurred, the suspect was found by the daughter inside an apartment building. St. Paul police say a group of the 92-year-old victim’s friends were detaining the suspect when officers arrived there. The suspect denies it was her, but she was arrested by officers and booked into jail Thursday night.
