Elk River Woman Accused in Brutal Broken Glass Attack

An Elk River woman has been charged with multiple felonies following an alleged attack that left another woman with severe injuries.

Authorities responded to a home on Fillmore Street Northwest in Elk River on the evening of Wednesday, Feb. 12 after getting a report of a domestic disturbance.

According to court records, while officers were en route, the caller reported that her aunt had threatened to kill her mother. When they arrived, police heard screams from the residence and inside found two women in a bedroom, both covered in blood. One of them, identified as Patience Wleh, 45, was holding a large piece of broken glass, which investigators say was used to repeatedly slash the victim.

Emergency responders applied a tourniquet to control the victim’s severe bleeding before transporting her to a hospital. Officers noted that Wleh had only minor injuries and was combative with law enforcement, attempting to spit at them multiple times before being restrained and eventually sedated.

During questioning, Wleh allegedly admitted to attacking the victim, saying she believed the victim "deserved every gash" and that she "wanted to kill her once and for all." The dispute reportedly escalated from a verbal argument over noice to the violent altercation, during which Wleh is accused of using a broken picture frame as a weapon.

Wleh now faces charges including attempted second-degree murder, second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, third-degree assault causing substantial bodily harm, threats of violence and misdemeanor domestic assault. She remains in custody awaiting an initial court appearance.
