Federal Jury Convicts Bemidji Man in Child Porn Case

A Bemidji man was convicted by a federal jury of distributing and possessing child sexual abuse material through the dark web.

Craig James Myran, 47, was found guilty after a three-day trial of charges that included two counts of advertising child pornography, one count of distributing child pornography and one count of possessing child pornography.

Court documents and trial evidence revealed that Myran was an active user of a dark web site dedicated to child sexual abuse material. Using a unique username, Myran reportedly made over a thousand posts, including requests for specific files of illegal material and the distribution of such material to other users.

On Dec. 8, 2022, FBI agents executed a search warrant at Myran’s Bemidji apartment. Investigators seized hard drives and a cell phone that a forensic examination later linked to his dark web account. The devices had evidence of files that Myran shared and requested, messages associated with his alias and thousands of additional images of child sexual abuse material.

The jury delivered its verdict earlier this week and Myran’s sentencing will be scheduled at a later date.

This case was prosecuted under Project Safe Childhood, a Department of Justice initiative aimed at combating child exploitation and abuse, and the FBI conducted the investigation.
