Fire crews responded to a blaze late Friday night after a fire broke out above the popular McGovern’s Pub.

Authorities say the fire started just before midnight at 225 West 7th Street, and is believed to have been caused by a downed power line that landed on the roof of the building.

Initial reports suggest the power line fell after a driver struck an electrical transformer and fled the scene.

Firefighters conducted searches on all floors of the building to confirm that everyone had safely evacuated. No injuries were reported.

McGovern’s management expressed gratitude to the community for their support. The full extent of the damage is unclear, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The historic building, erected in 1888, housed a variety of establishments over the years before becoming Patrick McGovern’s Pub in 1982.
