Firefighters Battle Blaze at Minneapolis Encampment
Minneapolis Firefighters responded Monday to a large blaze at an encampment near 29th Street and 14th Avenue.
Thick smoke and flames were visible for miles as firefighters worked to extinguish the fire around 2:15 p.m.
Initial reports indicated propane tanks were involved, a recurring hazard in encampment fires. No injuries were immediately reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and additional details about the incident were not immediately available. MN CRIME has reached out to officials for further information.
This marks the third significant encampment fire in recent weeks, underscoring ongoing safety concerns.
On January 1, Saint Paul fire crews battled a blaze under the Lafayette Bridge that destroyed multiple tents and involved dozens of propane tanks. One individual sustained burns to their hands and was transported for treatment.
On December 10, a fire in a Minneapolis encampment on 15th Avenue South spread to a neighboring home, prompting a two alarm response. Firefighters reported flames coming from the roof of the home as they worked to contain the fire. Exploding propane tanks complicated suppression efforts, though no injuries were reported.
