Man Arrested After Woman Found Fatally Burned at Saint Paul Shipping Warehouse

A woman found badly burned and unresponsive at a shipping warehouse Tuesday morning in Saint Paul has died of her injuries and a man has been arrested in relation, police say.

Police were called to the 1700 block of Wynne Ave. in the city’s Como Park neighborhood just before 9 a.m. for a report of “a woman on fire.”

When officers arrived, they located a woman in her 40s who was unresponsive, not breathing and appeared to have been badly burned, SPPD said in a media release.

Medics arrived and pronounced her dead at the scene shortly after. Officers were able to quickly identify a suspect, who had been in a previous relationship with the victim, according to SPPD.

Officers shared information about the suspect’s whereabouts with members of the Bloomington Police Department, the city where the suspect lived.

Bloomington police and fire crews responded to the 5000 block of Nine Mile Creek Circle where they found the suspect’s home ablaze.

The fire was eventually extinguished, no injuries were reported and police detained the suspect, Patrick Morris Simmons, 47.

Simmons was transported to the Saint Paul Police Department headquarters, where he was taken into custody without incident. He was interviewed by homicide investigators and is set to be booked on suspicion of murder.

Family members identified the victim as Kelli Ranning Goodermont, 44. Her killing is the 11th homicide of 2022 in Saint Paul.
