Man Dead, Suspect in Custody After Pine County Shooting

Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Thursday evening in the 57000 block of Barn Springs Road near Hinckley.

The Pine County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area on Nov. 15 around 8:45 p.m. after witnesses reported seeing the shooting and fleeing to safety.

Deputies arrived to find a man dead at the scene. His identity will be released following an autopsy and family notification, officials said.

Based on witness accounts, deputies identified the suspected shooter as 31-year-old Kirk Edward Hazlett III. With assistance from the Isanti County Sheriff’s Office, Hazlett was located and taken into custody shortly after the incident. He is currently being held at the Pine County Detention Center as investigators work to determine a motive.

The Pine County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are leading the investigation. The Isanti County Sheriff’s Office and Cambridge Police Department also assisted during the response.

Authorities expect to release additional details in the coming days.
