One man is dead and another is injured after a small plane crashed into a field south of Hutchinson on Monday afternoon.

Around 1:00 p.m., the McLeod County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call for a plane that had crashed into a field in the area of 145th Street and Plum Avenue in Hassan Valley Township.

According to scanner traffic, sheriff’s deputies, along with the Hutchinson Fire Department and Allina EMS responded to the scene and located a Cirrus SR-22 single-engine airplane down in the field with the emergency parachute deployed.

A press release states that crews made contact with the occupants of the plane and found two adult males who were suffering from serious injuries. Both individuals were removed from the aircraft and transported by Allina EMS to a nearby hospital. Both victims were later transported by LifeLink helicopter to a Twin Cities trauma center.

The McLeod County Sheriff’s Office said the pilot later died at the hospital. He’s been identified as Dr. Richard Jolkovsky, age 61, of Avon. According to web searches, Jolkovsky was a cardiologist with over 36 years of medical experience.

The passenger was identified as 24-year-old Kyle Fiebelkorn of St. Louis Park. Fiebelkorn remains hospitalized in stable condition.

According to data from FlightRadar24, a website that tracks information such as aircraft location, speed and altitude, the plane had taken off from Flying Cloud Airport in Eden Prairie around 11:20 a.m. before flying west and north. The aircraft flew over the Hutchinson Airport twice and crashed about two minutes after passing over the runway. It’s unknown where the plane was supposed to land.
