Man Sentenced for Eagan Teen's Overdose Death

A 29-year-old Burnsville man has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to 3rd-degree murder for providing a lethal dose of fentanyl that killed an Eagan teen in 2021.

Jamal Ahmed Adan was sentenced to 60 months in prison on Thursday as part of a plea agreement where prosecutors also agreed to drop a felony drug charge.

A similar case against a co-defendant involved is still in process.

The criminal complaint alleged that Adan sold counterfeit Percocet pills that contained fentanyl to another juvenile who shared the pills with the 16-year-old teenager, who later died. Investigators used Ring video surveillance and text message logs to link Adan to the drug sale.

The medical examiner determined that the 16-year-old’s death was caused by positional asphyxia due to fentanyl toxicity.
