Maplewood School Employee Arrested for Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material
Authorities have arrested a Maplewood man who was employed at a local school after a tip led to the discovery of extensive child sexual abuse material in his possession.
William Michael Haslach, 30, was charged Jan. 21 in Ramsey County with ten felony counts of possessing child sexual abuse material (CSAM) involving minors under the age of 14.
The investigation began Jan. 2, when Maplewood police received a tip from the Internet Crimes Against Children Unit at the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. The tip identified a Dropbox account linked to Haslach’s email address and connected to a Century Avenue North residence in Maplewood. The account contained multiple videos of CSAM uploaded in Nov. 2024.
Detectives confirmed the account and IP address were associated with Haslach. Search warrants for his Dropbox account, residence and person were executed on Jan. 17. Officers arrested Haslach and conducted a search of his home, seizing multiple USB drives and electronic devices containing approximately 800 CSAM files.
During a post-Miranda interview, Haslach admitted to having a sexual attraction to children and to acquiring CSAM through various online platforms, court documents said. He denied any physical contact with minors and forensic analysis of the seized devices is still ongoing.
The ten charges against Haslach each carry a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine. Bail was set at $100,000 and the court has ordered his continued detention pending further proceedings.
The North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale School District has confirmed that Haslach was employed as a recess and traffic monitor at Cowern Elementary, Richardson Elementary and North High School from Sept. 2021 to Jan. 2025.
According to a statement from Superintendent Christine Tucci Osorio, Haslach is currently on administrative leave and is barred from school property and contact with students. The district noted that no complaints or allegations were made against Haslach during his employment. Authorities have not indicated that any local children were depicted in the materials seized during the investigation.
The investigation remains active, with law enforcement urging anyone with relevant information to contact the Maplewood Police Department.
