Crews from multiple departments battled a large blaze Friday morning at the Springs Inn in Taylors Falls that left the structure uninhabitable.
Authorities said all occupants were accounted for and no injuries were reported.
The Chisago County Emergency Communications Center received 911 calls around 7:15 a.m. reporting fire and black smoke coming from the three-story motel at 361 Government St.
Deputies and firefighters arrived within minutes and found flames extending from the second floor up through the third. Rescue and evacuation procedures began immediately.
Authorities say the building is not habitable and those who were displaced have been connected with the American Red Cross for assistance.
The Chisago County Sheriff’s Office said occupants reported a suspected electrical issue near the area where the fire started. That lead is being investigated as authorities work to determine the official cause of the blaze. The Minnesota State Fire Marshal, Chisago County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division and Taylors Falls Fire Department are conducting the investigation.
Authorities said there is no known connection between this fire and recent fires in Shafer, Minn., or Dresser, Wisc., but investigators will continue to assess that possibility.
Fire departments from Taylors Falls, St. Croix Falls (Wisc.), Shafer, Lindstrom and Almelund, along with Lakes Region EMS, assisted at the scene.
