Minneapolis Police Search for Driver Who Fled Fatal Crash

Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash that left one man dead and another injured early Friday morning in Minneapolis.

Authorities are working to locate the driver, who fled the scene.

Police say around 3:52 a.m. on Oct. 18, 2024, near the 3200 block of Girard Avenue North, officers responding to the call found a white Ford Taurus overturned. A 19-year-old man, found lying near the vehicle, had life-threatening injuries. Despite lifesaving efforts by officers and EMS, he was pronounced dead at the scene. A second man was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Initial investigation shows the driver of the Ford Taurus was westbound on Lowry Avenue North when they struck a parked, unoccupied vehicle, causing it to overturn. Investigators say both the deceased and injured men were passengers, and the driver fled before officers arrived at the scene.

Officers secured the area and conducted a neighborhood canvass for witnesses and evidence, with the Minneapolis Police Traffic Unit and forensic scientists processing the scene. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner on Monday afternoon identified the deceased passenger as Demarion Deshaun Wade, 19, of Minneapolis.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing, police said as of Monday. Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or submit tips online at CrimeStoppersMN.org.
