MPD spokesman John Elder made the announcement Thursday, April 8, 2021, in a media conference, providing surveillance images of the suspect and more information than had been previously released.

The first victim was stabbed the around 9:20 a.m. March 17 outside a bus shelter near Chicago Ave. S. & Franklin Ave. The 78-year-old woman was stabbed in the chest and later died at the hospital. Just under ten minutes later, a 76-year-old man who was waiting for his wife on the sidewalk was stabbed and seriously injured on the 2200 block of Park Ave. S.

Then around 9:45 a.m., a 28-year-old man who was sitting near the bus shelter at Lake St. & 12th Ave. S. was also stabbed, with reportedly serious injuries. The suspect fled on foot before police arrived all three incidents.

Elder said it doesn’t appear the victims knew the suspect and he hasn’t struck again since the 17th.

Elder said solving the stabbings is of “paramount concern” for the department and asked anyone with information to come forward. The suspect in all three incidents was wearing the same clothing and displayed a “similar crime pattern,” police said.

The suspect is described as a black male with black hair, possibly 5’7” -5’9”, age unknown. At the time of the crimes, he had facial hair.
