Police Officer, Driver Hurt in Saint Paul Crash

A Saint Paul police officer and another driver were injured Tuesday night in a crash that sent one vehicle into a nearby apartment building.

The crash happened just before 8:30 p.m. near Westminster Street & Maryland Avenue East and involved a SPPD squad car and a Honda CR-V.

Other responding officers initially reported that the officer was semi-conscious after the crash. The Saint Paul Police Department later confirmed the officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Regions Hospital. The driver of the CR-V was also taken to Regions with non-life-threatening injuries.

State Troopers responded to assist with the investigation, while fire crews assessed the apartment building for potential structural damage. The intersection was reopened by around 10 p.m.

The State Patrol is leading the investigation into the cause of the crash and SPPD representatives could not yet release further information as of late Tuesday night.
