Man Pleads Guilty to Armed Robberies of Postal Employees
A 26-year-old Saint Paul man admitted to robbing two U.S. Postal Service employees at gunpoint in November.
Rubin David Adams pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to two counts of armed robbery of a mail carrier.
Authorities said the crimes took place on consecutive days in Edina and Brooklyn Center.
According to court documents, the first robbery occurred on Nov. 18, 2023, when Adams assisted an accomplice who confronted a letter carrier in Edina. The accomplice pointed a handgun at the victim and demanded a mailbox key, which the carrier did not have. The victim instead surrendered two sets of USPS vehicle keys.
The following day, Adams carried out the second robbery himself. Court records say he approached a Brooklyn Center letter carrier, held a handgun to the victim’s head, and demanded mailbox keys. Adams fled with two keys, which are used to access secured mail storage and are often exploited by criminals to steal mail, checks, and other valuables. Possession of these keys by unauthorized individuals is a federal crime.
Adams will be sentenced at a later date.
The investigation involved multiple agencies, including the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the FBI, Hennepin County Violent Offenders Task Force, Edina Police Department, Brooklyn Center Police Department, St. Louis Park Police Department and the Minnesota Alcohol and Gambling Enforcement Division.
