Search Ongoing for Missing 60-Year-Old in Cannon Falls
Authorities are continuing their efforts to locate a 60-year-old man who went missing while walking his dog Monday evening in the wooded areas near the Cannon River.
Cannon Falls police say they were first called to the 300 block of Larkspur Lane at 8:11 p.m. Monday after the man was reported missing.
Responding officers followed footprints in the snow leading into the woods but, as temperatures fell and darkness hindered visibility, additional resources were brought in. Initial search efforts included ground teams, local fire departments, and aerial support from the Minnesota State Patrol helicopter.
The search was suspended early Tuesday morning at 2:20 a.m. without locating the man. Efforts resumed at 9 a.m. with an expanded team that included the Cannon Falls Police and Fire Departments, Cannon Falls Ambulance, and multiple agencies including the Goodhue and Dakota County Sheriff’s Offices, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, and several nearby fire departments.
Throughout Tuesday, search teams used drones, amphibious vehicles, and on-foot personnel to cover both previously searched and new areas along the wooded terrain and riverbanks. Despite extensive efforts, the man remains unaccounted for as of Tuesday evening.
Authorities are urging local residents near the river to check sheds, outbuildings, or under low-hanging trees for any signs of the man. Hunters with trail cameras in the area are also asked to review footage for possible clues.
Individuals are asked not to conduct their own searches, as extreme weather conditions pose significant risks. Additionally, officials have warned against venturing onto ice-covered rivers and lakes, emphasizing that ice conditions are currently unsafe.
Anyone with information or potential leads is asked to contact the Cannon Falls Police Department immediately.
