Shooting Death of 3-Year-Old Boy Under Investigation in Northeast Minneapolis
Minneapolis police are investigating after a 3-year-old boy was fatally shot on Monday afternoon inside an apartment.
Around 12:45 p.m., officers from the Second Precinct responded to a 911 call reporting the shooting on the 2300 block of Jefferson Street Northeast.
When officers arrived, they found the child inside the apartment and began providing emergency medical aid along with firefighters and EMS personnel. The boy was rushed to Hennepin Healthcare, but despite lifesaving efforts, he did not survive.
“My thoughts are with the family of this little boy; they have experienced an unimaginable tragedy. The death of a young child has such a profound impact on both the child's immediate family and the first responders who tried so hard to save a life,” Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said.
Officers secured the scene and conducted a canvass of the area, with forensic scientists processing the apartment for evidence. Investigators are working to determine the events that led to the shooting.
The identity of the child, along with the official cause and manner of his death, will be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner.
