Three Inmates Charged After Attack on Correctional Officer

Three inmates at the Supermax Oak Park Heights prison have been charged with third degree aiding and abetting assault causing substantial bodily harm after attacking a correctional officer in June.

Authorities say the incident occurred on June 18, 2024, in Complex 3 of the facility, when inmate Quannah Lee Machacek, 36, approached a corrections sergeant and began throwing punches at the officer’s head and face.

As the officer attempted to defend themselves, Raymond Charles Weeks, 53, ran toward the scene and joined the attack, punching the officer and attempting to place the officer in a headlock. The two fell to the ground, at which point Dylan Lee King, 27, entered the attack, kicking and punching the officer.

According to the criminal complaints, Machacek continued the assault by stomping on the officer’s head while they were still on the ground, struggling with Weeks. The officer lost consciousness and sustained numerous bruises and abrasions as a result of the attack. Paramedics transported the officer to a local hospital, where they were treated for their injuries. More than a month later, the officer is reportedly still experiencing lasting effects from the assault.

All three defendants remain incarcerated at Oak Park Heights. Machacek is serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole for a prior murder conviction, while Weeks and King are serving time for second-degree murder and first-degree assault, respectively. Formal charges of aiding and abetting third-degree assault have been filed against each defendant, and they face up to five additional years in prison if convicted.
