2 Water Rescues Reported in Kandiyohi County Amid Strong Winds
The Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office responded to two separate water rescue incidents on Saturday involving stranded hunters caught in strong winds.
The first incident was reported at 6:32 a.m. Saturday morning on the Middle Fork Crow River in New London Township.
Authorities were alerted to two duck hunters, ages 33 and 13, who were stranded on a nearby island after their boat began taking on water amid wind gusts of up to 30 mph. Both individuals were showing early signs of hypothermia after abandoning their 2015 Tracker Jon Boat and swimming to safety.
The New London Fire Department quickly responded and rescued the pair, bringing them back to the access point for medical evaluation by New London Ambulance. The sheriff’s office also towed the submerged boat back to shore.
A second water rescue occurred later that afternoon at 1:10 p.m. on Big Kandiyohi Lake in Fahlun Township.
Deputies received a report of a 32-year-old hunter stranded on an island after his boat sank in similarly high winds. The sheriff’s office rescued the individual and returned him to shore. The man reported he had no injuries.
