White Bear Lake Blaze Injures 1; Possibly Intentionally Set

White Bear Lake police officers were called to a residence after a man reportedly started a four-plex on fire on the 2600 block of Aspen Court late Sunday.

Backup was requested for officers who were fighting with a possible suspect outside and a victim later rescued from the residence. Fire crews arrived and reported the structure was fully involved with heavy fire showing. Officers reported that a victim was trapped inside and fire command requested a second alarm to respond.

A possible suspect fought with responding officers outside of the residence, according to initial radio dispatches. He was detained after other officers arrived. As of now, his relation to the fire is not confirmed.

Crews located a victim inside the residence near the front door and brought them to waiting paramedics. The female victim was reportedly in cardiac arrest while being transported to the hospital. In a press release, the White Bear Lake Fire Department said one victim sustained critical injuries.

The Minnesota State Fire Marshal and the Ramsey County Fire Investigation Team have been requested to investigate the blaze. Other residents of the four-plex were displaced after the fire and the Red Cross was called in to assist them.

Neighbors reported hearing a "loud explosion" prior to the fire breaking out and that a “neighbor” had intentionally started it. Crews had the fire out by around 12:40 a.m. and there were no other reports of injury.

The White Bear Lake Police Department told MN CRIME that Christian Thomas Dahm, 45, was treated by medical staff before being arrested and transported to the Ramsey County Adult Detention Center where he was held pending formal charges for Negligent Fires; Dangerous Smoking. Dahm was a resident of the building. An update on the condition of the victim was not available as of early Monday afternoon.
