Saint Paul police are investigating two related incidents—a fatal shooting and a carjacking—Saturday night in the city’s North End.

When they entered the apartment, officers found an adult woman with gunshot wounds. Officers provided first aid until paramedics arrived, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

While responding to the initial shooting, a police sergeant was flagged down near the 90 block of Acker Street East about a carjacking. The victim told officers the suspect shot him in the hip and fled westbound on Acker Street in his 2010 silver Audi A4. Medics transported the carjacking victim to Regions Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A perimeter was set in the area and a Minnesota State Patrol helicopter was assisting in the search for the suspect Saturday night. There have been no arrests announced in relation to the shootings as of early Sunday.

Both crime scenes have been secured, and homicide investigators are working to determine the connection between the two incidents. “Preliminary information points to these two crimes being related, but more investigation needs to be done to confirm this connection,” police said in a news release.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office will perform an autopsy to confirm the identity of the woman and her cause of death. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 651-266-5650. This marks the 23rd homicide in Saint Paul this year.

UPDATE | Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024:

The deceased victim has been identified by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner as Damara Alexis Stowers, 35, of Saint Paul. Investigation into the shootings remains active and there have been no arrests announced in relation.
