A man covered in blood answered the door of a Saint Paul home Wednesday afternoon after calling 911, saying “someone killed his wife."

When officers asked about the blood soaking his clothing and hands, he told them, "She cut me... I cut her." Moments later, a woman was found in the basement with a deep gash across her throat.

The attack happened around 3:15 p.m. at a residence on the 400 block of Central Avenue West. The caller, identified as 33-year-old Kedu Husen Buseri, met officers at the door with his right hand wrapped in clothing and blood splattered on his face, jacket, shoes and shirt. He had a minor cut to his left hand.

The female victim was transported to Regions Hospital but was pronounced dead at 3:33 p.m. It was the first homicide of 2025 in Saint Paul.

Inside the home, officers found an elderly woman who appeared confused and did not speak English. They searched further and discovered an infant lying on a bed in the basement. Nearby, the 29-year-old victim was wrapped in a blanket on the floor, still breathing but unresponsive. She had a large laceration across her throat, deep cuts on her face and right bicep, and her neck and chest were covered in blood. A bent knife was found near her head.

The infant was unharmed but had blood on its clothing, court documents say.

A relative told investigators at the scene that his aunt rented a room in the home but was not related to Buseri or the victim. She recalled seeing the victim go downstairs but did not hear or witness the attack.

During an interview with an Oromo interpreter, Buseri told investigators he suspected the victim of infidelity. He claimed he saw another man’s vehicle outside the home and heard a man's voice inside. Buseri said he confronted the victim in their basement bedroom, slapped her, and that she cut his hand with a knife before he took it from her and stabbed her. When asked how many times he stabbed her, Buseri initially said twice but later said he could not recall. When pressed, he eventually admitted to killing his wife, the documents say.

An autopsy by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner found multiple sharp-force injuries on the victim’s head, face, neck, torso, arms and back. A deep wound to the right side of her neck severed her trachea and an internal jugular vein, measuring over three inches deep. The medical examiner determined her cause of death was multiple sharp-force injuries, ruling the manner of death a homicide.

Buseri has been charged with one count of second-degree murder, with intent but not premeditated, which carries a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison. His next hearing is set for March 6. A booking photo for Buseri was not immediately available.
