A woman was killed in Saint Paul on Wednesday afternoon, marking the city’s first homicide of 2025.

Authorities responded to a residence on the 400 block Central Avenue West around 3:10 p.m. after a man called 911 and reported that his wife had been killed.

When officers arrived, they found an adult male at the scene who was covered in blood. Inside the residence, they discovered a woman suffering from an apparent stab wound. Emergency responders from the Saint Paul Fire Department provided medical aid before she was transported to Regions Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

The man was taken into custody and brought to Saint Paul Police headquarters for questioning. Investigators—including forensic specialists—have processed the scene and were collecting evidence into the evening as they worked to determine what led up to the fatal incident.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to confirm the woman’s identity and establish her exact cause of death. Authorities have not yet released further details about the circumstances surrounding the killing. As of publication, it was not yet confirmed if the man was booked into jail or when formal charges are expected to be filed. Check back for updates
