A 17-year-old boy died after being shot inside a North Minneapolis home Sunday evening, police confirm.

The incident was reported just before 6:30 p.m. in the 2200 block of Ilion Avenue North, where officers were sent after the initial reports of gunshots fired were updated to a confirmed shooting.

When police arrived, they found the teenager with a life-threatening gunshot wound to the chest. Officers provided emergency medical care until paramedics arrived. The teen was taken to North Memorial Medical Center, where he later died.

Initial info indicates the boy was inside a residence when shots were fired into the home, striking him. Investigators have not said what led up to the shooting or whether anyone has been identified as a suspect.

Forensic scientists processed the scene and collected evidence as investigators worked to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
