A teacher at a private Faribault boarding school is charged with sexually assaulting an underage male student he connected with through a dating app.

Beck Alexander Saine, 26, of Faribault, faces a charge of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct in Rice County, according to criminal charges filed earlier this month.

According to the criminal complaint, detectives with the Faribault Police Department interviewed the juvenile victim, who reported he had been using Grindr to connect with adult men. The boy described having sexual contact with a teacher at Shattuck-St. Mary's School in Faribault.

The victim said he looked through the school's website and identified the teacher as Saine but didn't previously know his name. The two met on Grindr and then began communicating on Snapchat. They arranged to meet about a month prior to the interview and only met once.

Saine picked the victim up in his Toyota Corolla around midnight or 1 a.m. about a block from the boy's home, according to the complaint. Saine drove him to his apartment on the Shattuck-St. Mary's campus where they engaged in sexual contact, the charges allege.

While in Saine's apartment, the victim told him his age and Saine told the boy he taught science to kids the victim's age, the complaint states.

Faribault detectives confirmed Saine had a Corolla in his possession and lived in an apartment on the Shattuck-St. Mary's campus. Saine was arrested and declined to speak with law enforcement. He did tell officers he "wasn't surprised by the charge given the nature of the search warrant."

A LinkedIn profile for Saine lists Shattuck-St. Mary’s School as an employer and that he leads "five sections of 10th grade biology and earth science."

The about section of the social media profile states Saine is an "early career science educator and geoscientist, hoping to meet more queer scientists and other like-minded peers." The school's directory no longer lists him as an employee.

Fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

Saine posted a $75,000 non-cash bond on March 23 and has since been released from the Rice County Jail pending his next court appearance, set for June 11.
