A passenger died and another man was hospitalized Monday after a two-vehicle crash in Woodbury, officials confirm.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the drivers of a Chevrolet Corvette and Toyota Corolla made contact just west of Manning Avenue on Interstate 94 around 2:14 p.m.
The driver of the Corvette lost control, spun out and rolled into the south ditch. The driver of the Corolla also left the roadway, coming to rest nearby.
The Corvette’s passenger, 83-year-old Thomas Samuel Amsbaugh, of Downing, Wisc., was transported to Regions Hospital where he later died. The driver, 76-year-old Peter Henry Jungenberg, of Menomonie, Wisc., was also taken to Regions with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Corolla, a 30-year-old man from North Saint Paul, was not injured. The State Patrol said all three people were wearing seat belts and alcohol was not involved.
The crash occurred on dry pavement and remains under investigation. Woodbury police and fire departments, along with Cottage Grove and Oakdale police, assisted at the scene.
