A vehicle and Northstar train collided just after 7 a.m. Friday in Coon Rapids, sending the driver to the hospital and halting rail service in both directions.
Authorities said the crash happened around 7:12 a.m. on Aug. 22, when a northbound Northstar train struck a vehicle that was stopped on the tracks near 119th Avenue Northwest and Northdale Boulevard Northwest.
Authorities say the crossing is equipped with warning lights, bells and gates.
The driver was taken to a hospital after suffering life-threatening injuries, according to initial radio traffic. Metro Transit Police, Minnesota State Patrol, Coon Rapids Police and the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.
Metro Transit Police and State Patrol are leading the investigation. Northstar service remains suspended, with temporary bus service in place as the crash investigation continues.
