A wedding in Maplewood ended in gunfire Saturday evening when police say an attendee was shot in the legs by another man during an argument at a county park.

Officers and deputies responded around 5:40 p.m. to the 2100 block of Maplewood Drive North, in Keller Regional Park, after reports of shots fired during the ceremony involving around 100 people.

They found the victim, a 36-year-old man from Saint Paul, with one gunshot wound to each leg. First responders applied two tourniquets at the scene before he was taken to Regions Hospital.

While initially reported to be losing consciousness at the scene, the victim was described as awake and alert while being transported to the hospital by ambulance. Authorities say he is expected to survive his injuries.

According to the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting happened after the two men began arguing during the wedding gathering. Witnesses reported that the suspect fled in a black Dodge Durango, which was last seen heading south on Highway 61, according to initial radio reports. No official suspect information had been released as of publication.

A sheriff’s office spokesperson says the case is under active investigation, with multiple deputies working to take the suspect into custody.
