A major methamphetamine case unfolded in Hibbing last weekend after task force officers found several pounds of drugs during a traffic stop and later searched a home tied to the investigation.
Authorities say the arrests led to multiple felony charges against the man they took into custody and a separate drug possession charge against a woman at his residence.
According to law enforcement, members of the Lake Superior Violent Offender Task Force stopped a vehicle at about 5:50 a.m. on Dec. 6 in Hibbing and detained the driver, identified as Travis Timothy White.
The vehicle was towed to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office in Hibbing while officers obtained a search warrant. During the search, investigators reported finding about three pounds of methamphetamine along with a digital scale and plastic baggies. White was taken to the St. Louis County Jail in Hibbing.
A short time later, officers with the task force and Hibbing Police Department served a search warrant at White’s home in the city. During that search, authorities said they arrested Deann Marie Buncich after finding methamphetamine at the residence. She was also booked into the St. Louis County Jail in Hibbing.
On Dec. 9, White appeared in St. Louis County Court in Hibbing and was charged with four counts of first degree methamphetamine crimes. His bail was set at $350,000. Buncich was arraigned on one count of fifth degree possession of methamphetamine with bail set at $10,000.
Authorities have not released further details about the investigation as the case moves forward.
