Man Faces Felonies After Baseball Bat Assault, Burglary

File

Formal criminal charges have been filed against Bryant Darrel Bramstedt, 20, following a violent incident early Tuesday morning in Saint Paul.

Bramstedt is charged with two counts of felony first-degree burglary and two counts of felony assault.

According to the criminal complaint, officers responded to an assault call at approximately 3:31 a.m. on September 3, 2024, at an apartment located on the 200 block of Frank Street. Bramstedt, who later admitted to the attack, reportedly entered the residence through a window after his ex-girlfriend invited him inside. Upon entering, Bramstedt found his ex-girlfriend in bed with another man, prompting a violent attack.

Bramstedt told police that he became enraged when the victim allegedly “pounced” at him. In response, Bramstedt grabbed a baseball bat that was next to the bed and struck the victim in the head multiple times. Officers found the victim in the kitchen, hunched over in a pool of blood with severe facial injuries. The victim was later transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries including multiple skull fractures and brain swelling.

The ex-girlfriend also suffered head injuries during the attack. She informed officers that she had not invited Bramstedt over and was asleep when he suddenly appeared in her bedroom. She said that Bramstedt began striking both her and the other man with the bat without warning.

Bramstedt, who has other pending felony charges including aggravated robbery and illegal firearm possession, was taken into custody at the scene. He now faces up to 20 years in prison for three of the felony charges.

Bail has been set at $500,000 and Bramstedt remains in custody. He is expected to make his first court appearance on Thursday.
