A 25-year-old man from Seymour, Wisc., died Thursday afternoon after being struck by a dump truck in a construction zone in Maple Grove.

The crash happened around 1:56 p.m. on westbound Highway 610 near Maple Grove Parkway, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Investigators say a 2016 Peterbilt dump truck was backing up in the construction area when it hit the contractor, who was on foot. The victim’s identity will be released Friday, officials said.

The driver of the truck was identified as a 57-year-old man from Port Charlotte, Fla. He was not injured and troopers noted he was wearing a seat belt. Alcohol was not involved, according to the crash report.

The road was dry at the time of the incident. Maple Grove police, Maple Grove fire, North Memorial paramedics and MnDOT all assisted at the scene.

Authorities have not yet released further details about the circumstances of the incident, which remains under investigation.

It’s the second fatal crash in a construction zone on metro roadways in as many days. On Wednesday around 9 a.m., a contractor was fatally struck by a boom truck in a section of roadway that was closed to public traffic on southbound I-35W at Burnsville Parkway.
