A pedestrian was struck and killed by a driver early Friday morning on Highway 59 just south of Mahnomen, the State Patrol says.
Troopers say 40-year-old Lee Edmond Defoe of Waubun was walking southbound along Highway 59 when he was hit by a southbound GMC Sierra.
The driver, a 39-year-old man of St. Cloud, was not injured and remained at the scene. Authorities say alcohol was not a factor.
The crash occurred on a two-lane stretch of Highway 59 located outside the city limits of Mahnomen. Troopers and local law enforcement, including the Mahnomen County Sheriff’s Office, White Earth Police and the FBI, responded to the scene.
State Patrol investigators are continuing to review the circumstances. No further details have been released as of Friday evening.
