RICHFIELD—Police have announced the arrests of two juveniles they believe are related to a shooting Friday night just outside the Richfield High School homecoming football game.

The sound of the gunfire was captured on a school district livestream of the football game, and showed fans and players inside Spartan Stadium running for cover. The game was called in the 4th quarter and the rest of homecoming weekend events canceled by administrators.

A 21-year-old male and an 18-year-old male were injured in the shooting. The 18-year-old was transported to a local hospital but has since been released. The 21-year-old victim did not required hospitalization.

Police said that a school staff member told an on-site police officer that a “number of individuals” had been turned away from the game, that the group was still gathered at the northeast entrance and apparently waiting for the game to end.

RPD said an officer drove to the area, heard the two gunshots and saw numerous people running from the scene. The two victims were found near the northeast entrance gate of the football field.

Richfield police on Sunday said that they had arrested two juvenile males in relation: a 16-year-old and a 15-year-old.

According to initial information, police said that the 15-year-old is the suspected shooter and is a current Richfield High School student. That suspect was arrested late Saturday night in Richfield, police said.

The 16-year-old male who was arrested was “suspected of instigating the altercation,” is a former RHS student and was arrested early Saturday morning in Edina, RPD said.

Both suspects were transported to the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center and formal charges are expected early this week.
