A man died and another was injured after gunfire broke out Tuesday evening in south Minneapolis, marking the city’s second fatal shooting of the day.

Around 8 p.m., officers were called to the 2700 block of 3rd Avenue South on a report of a shooting.

They found a man in his 20s suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds and began lifesaving efforts including CPR. He was taken to Hennepin Healthcare, where he later died.

Preliminary information indicates the man was outside when shots were fired. Forensic teams processed the area and collected evidence.

About 17 minutes later, a man in his 20s was dropped off at Abbott Northwestern Hospital with apparent non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. Investigators believe his injuries are connected to the 3rd Avenue shooting, though the exact sequence of events remains unclear.

Minneapolis police said it is not yet known whether this shooting is connected to the earlier incident near 29th Street East and Clinton Avenue, where seven people were shot just after 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. In that case, one man died and six others were injured after a gunman with a .223 rifle opened fire on a group gathered on the sidewalk.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the name of the man killed Tuesday night along with the official cause and manner of death.

No arrests have been made in either shooting, and Minneapolis police continue to investigate. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
