The Chisago County Sheriff’s Office says a man is expected to survive after falling down a cliff more than 50 feet near the Saint Croix River in Franconia Township Wednesday afternoon.

Emergency crews were called around 2 p.m. to the bluff. When they arrived, crews called for mutual aid from the Taylors Falls and St Croix Falls Fire Departments for specialized technical rescue equipment. A LifeLink medical helicopter, as well as the Minnesota Air Rescue Team (MART) were also requested.

Emergency responders from Lakes Region EMS and Shafer/Franconia Firefighters tended to the victim while others prepared to hoist him out of the valley by helicopter. Once the victim was ready to be moved, the MART lifted the man out of the valley and brought him to the waiting LifeLink helicopter before being flown to a trauma center.

The 74-year-old man was expected to survive, but no update on his current condition or injuries was noted.
