1 Dead, 1 Seriously Injured In Crash near Duluth

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office says a 78-year-old Duluth man died Friday in a crash in the city of Rice Lake.

Crews were called to the intersection of Martin Road near Woodland Avenue on a report of the crash just before 8:45 a.m.

Initial investigation reveals that a Toyota Sienna minivan was traveling eastbound and began slowing and entering the shoulder when the driver suddenly attempted to make a U-turn, turning into the path of a 2005 Freightliner flatbed truck.

The truck struck the minivan on the driver’s side, seriously injuring the driver, 42-year-old Jason Larson. The passenger, 78-year-old Paul Larson, of Duluth, died at the scene.

The driver of the truck, 47-year-old Ricky Siegle, was not injured in the crash.

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office says the crash remains under investigation.
