2 Dead After Head-On Crash in Cottage Grove Sunday

The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating a crash that left two people dead on Highway 61 in Cottage Grove Sunday morning.

According to Cottage Grove Public Safety, at around 8:15 a.m., multiple 911 callers reported a two-vehicle crash on Highway 61 northbound between 80th St. S. & Jamaica Ave. The callers reported that a vehicle had been traveling the wrong way on the highway before the crash.

Emergency responders arrived and found two people deceased.

The State Patrol says Julia Ann Bild, a 95-year-old Cottage Grove woman, was driving a Ford Fusion southbound in the northbound lanes of Hwy. 61 when she struck an Audi Q5 that was occupied by a driver and two passengers. Bild died at the scene.

Tanya Ann Mott, a 32-year-old woman from Lakeville, who was a passenger in the Audi, also died of her injuries at the scene of the crash.

The driver and other passenger in the Audi were transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Crews remained on scene conducting a crash reconstruction as of 10:45 a.m. Heavy traffic delays were seen in the area on MnDOT traffic cameras.
