2 Hurt in Columbia Heights Park Shooting

Police say two people were taken the hospital after a shooting at a Columbia Heights park Sunday night.

Just before 8:40 p.m. on Nov. 10, law enforcement received multiple reports of gunfire in the area of Labelle Park in Columbia Heights.

Assisting officers from Coon Rapids, Fridley, Blaine, Spring Lake Park and deputies with the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office, all converged on the scene to secure the area.

Officers found several shell casings but initial searches of the park yielded no suspects nor victims. Investigators expanded their search in an effort to find those involved or injured.

Shortly after, law enforcement received notice of a juvenile male with gunshot wounds who had been admitted to a nearby hospital. While details about his condition remain undisclosed, it was confirmed that his injuries were likely sustained at Labelle Park, the Columbia Heights Police Department said.

Minutes later, a second shooting victim, an adult male, was located at a private residence in Columbia Heights. Emergency medical personnel from Allina EMS transported him to a local hospital for treatment. An update on the extent of his injuries has also not been made available as of publication.

Investigators believe both victims were involved in the same incident at Labelle Park, but the motive for the shooting and the events leading up to it are still under investigation. Authorities have not identified any suspects or made arrests, and both the Columbia Heights Police Department and the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office are continuing investigation.

Anyone with information related to the shooting is asked to call CHPD at (763) 706-8100.
