A 65-year-old Sunburg woman led deputies on a brief pursuit Friday afternoon after taking off during a traffic stop and crashed into a bridge railing in Irving Township, the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies attempted to stop the driver on Indian Beach Road around 5:05 p.m. on March 27 for suspicion of impaired driving and other violations. While deputies were in the middle of conducting the stop, the driver fled at a high rate of speed.

A short pursuit followed. The driver struck a bridge railing at Indian Beach Road and 134th Avenue Northeast and became trapped inside her vehicle.

Fire, rescue and EMS crews extricated the driver from the wreckage. New London Ambulance transported her to a hospital with moderate but non-life-threatening injuries.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash. The investigation is ongoing. The driver's name has not been released.

The pedestrian portion of the bridge is closed for safety and repairs.

The Spicer Fire Department, New London Ambulance and Kandiyohi County Rescue Squad assisted at the scene.
