75-year-old Airlifted After Moped Collides with Minivan in Beltrami County

A 75-year-old man was airlifted to a Fargo hospital with life-threatening injuries after his moped collided with a minivan Friday afternoon in Beltrami County.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the crash occurred around 1:48 p.m. on Highway 71 near Turtle Lake Road in Port Hope Township.

Authorities say Jed M. Maggert, of Blackduck, was riding his 1957 Kush moped southbound on Highway 71 when he attempted to turn east onto Turtle Lake Road. A 2010 Dodge Journey minivan, also traveling southbound, struck the moped at the intersection.

Maggert, who was not wearing a helmet, sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted by North Memorial Air to a hospital in Fargo. Authorities say alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

The driver of the minivan, identified as 20-year-old Shania K. Kampa, of Blackduck, was not injured.
